I loved this book. My husband and I rented an apartment in St. Petersburgh for 6 weeks. We attended a Russian language school, and that was quite an experience. Reading Mr. Tharrett's book brought back the memories of keys, locks that do not open, the small washing machine in the bathroom with the water heater above, the smell of the building, etc. etc. I reccomend the book - this book gives an accurate idea of what life is in Russia.Eva McDonald

An amazing "journey" through the culture and customs of Russia! Explores the trials and tribulations of living abroad. Thoughtful and insightful told with a visual that draws the reader into the experience! A great read just to explore Russian culture!
I recently read Surviving Russia. It was very easy read. It almost read like a conversation between me and the author. I have traveled to Russia and Kazakhstan about 10 years ago. I could relate to much of what the author wrote as it brought back vivid memories of our experience. I really appreciated the travel tips and recommendations written in many of the chapters. I especially thought the chapter on doing business in Russia was very beneficial and interesting. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has traveled to Russia or plans to travel and/or work in Russia.
Good reading. Would have liked more info on the state influence on the landlord's and property and how the people really feel about their quality of life also how much freedom they have with access to the internet and how living in Russia is different from living in USA.
How was he received as an American.
